Reinecke's salt

Reinecke's salt is a metal complex with the formula NH4[Cr(NCS)4(NH3)2]•0.66H2O. In laboratory work it is used for analyzing cations like mercury or copper. It is soluble in alcohol and the photos are made of crystals precipitated from an alcoholic solution on a microscope slide.
