Birds of the Fajara Golf Course

The Fajara Golf Course is placed near the city Kotu on the Gambian coast. It is an excellent and wonderful place for birding with a wide range of habitats including dense vegetation, forest areas and open bushland, close to mangrove forests and to the Kotu Stream. I was there several times in the afternoon coming during the backdoor from the Bakotu Hotel (there is a small path through the mangroves to the golf course). The area has a high diversity of bird species (mostly woodland species but also wader birds, hornbills, passerine birds etc.) and is famous for Black-headed Plovers which can be found on sandy areas of the court.

The best observations were on the border of the mangrove forests and rice fields along bushes and trees. Good places are the tee boxes of the golf course allow the surrounding bushes and mangroves to survey.

This is a small selection of the birds found on the Fajara Golf Course:
