Sodium carbonate

Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) or washing soda or soda ash is a salt of carbonic acid. It is used for countless purposes like food additive (number E500) or as water softener in cleaning agents. Under the microscope it normal a colorful appearance (upper photography), but can show many different form. In the lower photography it consists of dendritic grown crystals that form small bushes. The sample was just too long in the heating cabinet.
